About PRP for skin rejuvenation.
PRP has long been known as an effective treatment in various surgical and medical fields. Face and neck revitalization with PRP is an application that is rapidly gaining popularity. It is not a volumetric filler but a biological cell therapy with patient’s own cells and a popular, relatively painless injectable treatment for the aging face in cosmetic practices. Aging of human skin results from a combination of a gradual decline in function over time (intrinsic aging) and cumulative damage caused by environmental factors (extrinsic aging), which include smoking, exposure to chemicals, and notably, ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation. In skin, which is continually exposed to UVB, collagen degeneration and altered deposition of elastic tissue result in the impairment of the structural integrity of the dermal layers causing the skin to wrinkle. The skin’s resilience is also reduced.

What is PRP and how does it work?
  • PRP or platelet rich plasma is a component of blood that is obtained from the person undergoing treatment. PRP is injected into facial areas where improvement is needed in increased volume, repair of sun damage, and healing of scars.
  • Introduction of platelet rich plasma containing growth factors stimulates the rejuvenation of photoaged facial skin, improving its clinical appear once and inducing new collagen production.
  • Facial rejuvenation utilizing individual’s own platelet growth factors is a natural approach to restore dermal degeneration.
  • Individuals that have undergone PRP injections show quantifiable improvement of skin complexion with visible changes noticeable in 3–4 weeks, especially forehead, cheeks, neck, and back of hands;
About the procedure:
  • Blood is drawn from the individual undergoing treatment at the time of the visit.
  • The sample is then placed into a special container and spun in a centrifuge that separates the blood into three layers, platelet poor plasma, PRP and red blood cells. The red blood cells are discarded.
  • PRP can then be injected into affected areas of the face, neck and hands.
  • Prior to the injection the skin is numbed by a 30 minute application of a special numbing cream that renders this procedure essentially painless.
  • Platelet poor plasma is then applied to the skin to provide essential oils and nutrition that are found in this blood component.
  • This procedure can be combined with other procedures such as midroneedling, microderm abrasion, laser, and chemical peels.
  • Prescription of these procedures is provided by Dr. Kaplan as part of a consultation and depends on complexity of the skin condition and extensiveness of skin damage.

How does The Osteopathic Wellness Medicine PRP treatment differ from other centers?
It is our comprehensive approach that sets us apart.
  1. The benefit from the procedure starts with the quality of the PRP. The higher the concentration of PRP the better the results. Our process isolates the highest amount of PRP available on the market through a special double spin process.
  2. The face is expertly numbed with a special numbing cream that renders the procedure essentially painless.
  3. Micro needling of the skin is performed before PRP injection with infusion of essential oils and vitamins. This loosens and moisturizes the skin making it more receptive for the PRP treatment. Microneedling also breaks up tough or scarred areas that would otherwise be less responsive to the treatment.
  4. A specially designed blunt tip cannula instead of a needle is used for injection of the PRP. This virtually eliminates injection related pain and bruising.
  5. After the skin PRP injection, individual’s platelet poor plasma that contains essential oils and nutrients is mixed with a solution of minerals and vitamins and worked into the skin.
  6. Blood work is obtained to rule out other causes of impaired skin health. Hormone, vitamin and mineral supplementation is prescribed to boost the healing response.
  7. Sleep and stress levels are assessed as stress has been implicated in skin degeneration. Meditation has been shown to be an extremely effective stress reduction tool. Free meditation classes to our clients are offered twice a month. Private and group mindfulness stress based reduction counseling is available.
  8. Our beautiful Yoga and fitness facilities offer classes for stress reduction and various levels of fitness that stimulate individuals immune system for an optimal healing response.
